Title "Moon-Hee", a New MBC Drama Series

Kang Soo-yeon, acclaimed as a great actress at various international film
festivals, returns to television drama for the first time in 6 years with the
new weekend series by MBC. Kang Soo-yeon is to be cast as the protagonist of
"Moon-hee," a sequel to the MBC weekend series "My Beloved Sister" starring Song
Yoon-ah. The new series will begin shooting as the year begins. This will be the
first time in 6 years that Kang Soo-yeon appears in television drama, her latest
appearance being the role of the temptress Jung Nan-jung in the 2001 drama
"Ladies of the Palace" by SBS.
"Moon-hee" (screenplay by Jung Sung-hee & Lee Han-ho / produced by Lee Jae-gap), a drama about motherhood and sacrifice, centers on the life and hardships of the eponymous heroine who is forced to leave the child she had when she was only eighteen. The synopsis for the drama conveys a message to the less-than-dutiful mothers of our day and age, who know no sacrifice and often abandon their children, to reconsider the weight and meaning involved in motherhood.
Upon reviewing the synopsis of "Moon-hee" by Jung Sung-hee & Lee Han-ho, whose previous works include "The Ambition of a Woman", "Fashion 70s", and "Seoul 1945", the producers are said to have instantly thought of Kang Soo-yeon for the leading role. Reportedly, the writers had expressed hopes to portray the travails of a woman's life through the acting of Kang Soo-yeon, who is the same age as themselves.
In the drama, Kang Soo-yeon plays the role of a 29-year old woman who was born out of wedlock to a department store mogul. Her acting will be a versatile portrayal of a vengeful and spiteful woman whose life had been riddled with hardship, but who nevertheless bears infinite affection for her child. Kang Soo-yeon, whose last role was a short but lasting part as Empress Myungsung in director Kang Woo-suk's blockbuster film "Hanbando", is said to have decided upon "Moon-hee" as her next appearance only after long deliberation.
Awarded as best actress at the Venice Biennale and the Moscow international Film Festival as well as becoming the SBS top actress through her role in "Ladies of the Palace," the talented Kang Soo-yeon's long-awaited return to drama is being highly anticipated. The first episode of "Moon-hee" will air on 8:00 PM, Feb. 24, 2007 on MBC.
