Synopsis

“Supper” is a shabby Korean restaurant in the countryside near a small train station. Young-shin is in her third year of high school, but while her classmates to straight to academies after school, she rushes to the market to buy cheap ingredients to cook with. It’s to cook a warm dinner for customers that need a meal that only costs 4 dollars. Young-shin learned how to cook from Gyung-soo, the owner of the restaurant, since she was little. There were regulars that paid meal tickets at the restaurant when she first step foot in it. She grew up with Jung-hoon, who moved to the countryside with his father that got divorced by his mother, Oh-bok, who was raised by his old grandmother after his parents abandoned him and Da-jung, who usually ate at Supper because both her parents worked. They became closer than most siblings over 12 years. 4 young people show up in Gyung-soo’s life, unraveling a lively story of love, friendship, ambition and forgiveness.

8-year-old Young-shin suddenly has to live with Gyung-soo. Gyung-soo used to be an introvert that rarely said a word until Young-shin walked into his life. However, he starts learning what Young-shin needs with the help of the women in town and slowly becomes more cheerful. People believed Young-shin was born with a cheerful personality. She grows into an energetic teenager as if to prove those people right, and later into a sweet, generous and intelligent young woman that helps those in need like Gyung-soo does. She falls in love with Jung-hoon, who was like a brother to her since their childhood.

Gyung-soo - Starring Jae-hee
Gyung-soo doesn’t show his emotions and rarely says a word. The customers at Supper that have tiresome lives are comfortable with his personality. That quiet young man is suddenly living with an 8-year-old girl and he doesn’t tell anyone who the girl is. Young-shin becomes someone Gyung-soo can’t live without and he makes up his mind to raise her like any good parent. They become family although they aren’t related in any way, but Gyung-soo can’t deny feeling sad in a corner of his heart when he sees Young-shin fall for Jung-hoon in her 20s without being able to tell Jung-hoon how she feels. Gyung-soo can’t open up to any other woman because of Young-shin and is surprised to realize this. He feels as if he can’t say this aloud and is torn over strong his feelings about her.

Jung-hoon - Starring Kwon Hyuk
Jung-hoon’s father is devastated when he finds out about his wife’s affair and moves to the countryside with Jung-hoon, but no plans, after getting divorced. Jung-hoon can’t accept the countryside life after the sudden change. His father helps other people farm to make a living and Jung-hoon thinks studying hard is the only way out of this miserable life. He begs his father to send him to an academy in town, but his father shows no interest. So he becomes friends with Da-jung so he can learn from her father, who is an elementary school teacher. Seeing how intelligent he is, Da-jung’s father continues teaching him and he gets into a local medical school. Everyone assumes he will marry Da-jung, but he’s always been interested in Young-shin since they were kids.

Da-jung - Starring Kang Da-hyeon
She takes after her kind father, a teacher in the countryside, but also her mother, a manager at an apparel shop, and doesn’t do anything that would cause her a loss. She is a cute, sassy girl. Da-jung’s mother takes care of Young-shin, who doesn’t have anyone to take care of her, like a daughter. Da-jung and Young-shin are practically sisters. When Jung-hoon gets accepted by a local medical school, Da-jung applies for the Department of Food Management at the same school without giving it a second thought. When the two go to college, Young-shin watches them go to school while working as an assistant in the kitchen of a Korean restaurant. She wishes them the best rather than being jealous as they are like family. However, Da-jung realizes how Jung-hoon feels about Young-shin when they become adults. Everyone comes to like the poor restaurant owner’s daughter. Even Da-jung’s parents rely on Young-shin as if she were their eldest daughter and Da-jung feels like Young-shin took everything from her. Young-shin can take everything except Jung-hoon.

Oh-bok - Starring Cho Han-jun
His parents said they’d come get him when they have enough money, but he hasn’t heard from them ever since. He lives with his grandma, who sells vegetables at the market, and uncle, who has a low IQ. He eats away his anxiety at Supper, the Korean restaurant, and eats three times more than normal kids his age, but there is always plenty of food at Supper. He hangs out with the gang in town and had to be dragged home several times by Young-shin and his uncle. Oh-bok is like family to Young-shin just like Jung-hoon and Da-jung. Oh-bok thinks of Young-shin as an older sister and Young-shin thinks of Oh-bok as a younger brother she always feels bad for. After some time passes, Oh-bok shows up with a lot of money from who knows where. Young-shin treats him like she always did, but Jung-hoon and Da-jung want nothing to do with him. Especially Da-jung ignores him without trying to hide it and Oh-bok is hurt. Young-shin makes up her mind to never give up on him until he can live a normal life like everyone else, but Oh-bok is the first to die out of them.
