What would happen if the first queen of our history, “Queen Seondeok”
(Lee Yo-won) were to be the rival of the seductive, cunning and charismatic “Misil”
(Koh Hyun-jung)? MBC’s 48th Founding Anniversary Special drama “The
Great Queen Seondeok” held a press conference on May 14th in the
town of Kyung-Joo, the ancient capital city of Silla. This new drama is
to restore the fascinating culture of Silla on screen, as well as to portray
the bitter power rivalry between the ladies. Many of the cast including Koh
Huyn-jung, Lee Yo-won, Park Ye-jin, Cho Min-ki, Uhm Tae-woong, Kim Nam-gil,
Dokgo Young-jae, Jeon No-min, Jeong Woong-in, and Yoo Seung-ho appeared at the
conference. The short footage screened on this day revealed scenes of grand-scale
shots, brilliant colors, and fierce rivalry between the characters, stirring up
great expectations for the new drama.
Koh Hyun-jung stated “Since the title
itself is “Queen Seondeok,” the focus may easily be on that main character, so
I am going to desperately try to emphasize Misil’s character. You will witness
Koh Hyun-jung’s wretched attempt to challenge Lee Yo-won,” adding a joke. The inevitable
feud between Misil, the woman who has tasted the sweetness of power, and
Princess Deokman, who is later to become the Queen Seondeok with the help of
the general Kim Yusin (Uhm Tae-Woong), portends the grandeur of this new tale, <the
Great Queen Seondeok>. The first episode of the ladies’ bitter fight for the
crown will be on air on May 25th, 9:55 pm.
